Technology cooperation for backlit surfaces

Backlit surfaces are becoming more and more popular in modern cars and many other products. Skilfully staged and harmoniously combined, they give products their own character and always create wow effects. If components that are later to work together as a system, as in this case, are developed independently of each other, this often leads to problems, higher costs and long development times.

In order to be able to offer better solutions in the future, the companies LEONARD KURZ and MENTOR have combined their expertise in modern surfaces and LED-based lighting technology in a technology co-operation. This offers many advantages in the field of backlit surfaces:

  • Innovative lighting effects and completely new designs can be realised in static and dynamic lighting scenarios through the interplay of surfaces and specifically coordinated light distributions.
  • LED modules with a tried and tested RGB algorithm can be used to compensate for the colour location shifts that occur on the surface. The result: corporate identity colours with full colour fidelity.
  • Cooperative development leads to more sustainable solutions – with less paint applied in the decorative layer, fewer LEDs and lower power consumption.

Together, KURZ and MENTOR ensure leaner production processes. Thanks to the close partnership between the two experts, new designs can be developed more quickly and less coordination is required in production. Customers thus benefit from a high level of efficiency. This pioneering technology was presented for the first time at the K 2022 trade fair in Düsseldorf.
