100 years of mentor – the future needs experience

Founded in 1920, our company was celebrating its 100th anniversary a few years ago. For more than 100 years we have been a financially independent, owner-run family business and in all this time we have conducted our business based on a sound commercial policy and in the spirit of partnership with our customers, suppliers and partners driven by the principles of reliability and fairness. 100 years of experience provide us with an important foundation to build on. But what is equally important to us is to be open to new ideas, forward-looking and always willing to change. Flat hierarchies, short pathways to decisions and an in-depth dialogue with our partners in the market ensure our close proximity to the market and our ability to respond quickly to new trends and changes. And what guided us in the past will continue to guide us in these challenging times for the next hundred years.

Our values

High-quality and long-lasting products, protecting the environment and preserving our natural resources as well as promoting the safety, health and professional development of our staff. These are the cornerstones of MENTOR’s social and corporate commitment. To this end, we have defined the principles of our corporate and sustainability policy as well as an ethical code of conduct. They apply equally to our management and to each individual working for our group of companies. We expect all our suppliers and partners to follow the same principles and we review compliance with these requirements and their further development. These reviews are also part of our supplier management.

In the more than 100 years of our company’s existence we have produced a great variety of products, supplied a wide range of customers and industries and collaborated with many partners and suppliers. Many things have changed over time – including us. But there are three things that remained constant and have been key to all of MENTOR’s actions from the very beginning to the present day: A focus on quality, a commitment to innovative technology and a unique approach that we call MENTORing. We believe these three constants to be embedded in our brand DNA and this is symbolised in the three wings of our brand sign.



The term ‘precision’ being part of our company name is not a coincidence but rather an expression of our corporate philosophy where the quality of our products and processes is of utmost priority from the very start. It is not least because of this commitment that the quality management systems at all our production locations is certified to ISO 9001.

From the very beginning, the use of innovative technology has been part of our philosophy and key to the success of our company. It is intended not as an end in itself but as a means to enable our customers to realise their own innovative potential – allowing them to create products that are more useful, more multifunctional, more customised and sometimes simply more beautiful. Most recently, we received the TOP100 Award of the most innovative medium-sized enterprises in Germany for our innovation management.


As manufacturer of technical products and components, we are committed to providing our customers with outstanding advice on everything related to our components and their application. This is – and always has been – one of our strengths. It is this commitment that, back in the early 1920s, gave our company founder the idea for our brand and current company name – MENTOR.


Our product and service portfolio comprises LED-based lighting systems for ambient and functional lighting as well as state-of-the-art control and display elements for housing fronts and other mechanical, electronic and optoelectronic HMI components. While earlier in the company’s development, the focus was more on solitary individual components, our portfolio is now more and more geared towards complete systems and subsystems. These are usually developed and implemented as customised solutions. From design to production. Everything from a single source.

The portfolio of our components covers a broad range of optical fibre systems, keyboard components, optoelectronic and electromechanical components as well as control knobs and housing handles. Here, we offer more than 2,500 standard products as well as various options for customised solutions.

Lighting solutions

For design-relevant products in various industries we develop and build high-quality LED-based lighting components that can be used for direct or indirect spot, linear, surface or contour lighting. Suitable for daytime and night-time applications. Static or dynamic. White, monochrome or multi-coloured.

As a specialist in the fields of optoelectronics and optical fibre systems, we have been a development supplier and system provider to renowned automotive manufacturers and have partnered with major system providers for many years, implementing tailor-made lighting systems for them in both daytime and night-time design for interior and exterior lighting.

Lighting, and in particularly product-integrated lighting, is our expertise. This is where our many years of knowledge, cutting-edge technology and an interdisciplinary team of highly qualified professionals come into their own. Lighting solutions and components currently account for three quarters of our sales. We firmly believe that lighting is incredibly important to the design of successful products. But more often than not the many ways in which lighting can be used in functionality and aesthetics as well as for emotional impact remain undiscovered. We have made it our business to change that.

Development and manufacture of sophisticated technical solutions requires economical and quality-oriented production as well as efficient logistics – both on the procurement and on the customer side. With our company headquarters in Erkrath the gates of Düsseldorf and further locations in Germany, Poland, Tunisia and China, we have created structures that we are  consistently developing and expanding.
