High-tech Textiles for Tomorrow’s Mobility

The ceremonial opening of MUNDA Textile Lichtsysteme GmbH’s new production site in Pristina, Kosovo, marked a significant milestone in the company’s young history. The plant was officially inaugurated on 22 April 2025 in a laid-back and optimistic atmosphere. Site manager Kushtrim Grainca welcomed guests including Prime Minister Albin Kurti, German Deputy Ambassador Matthias Conrad, Minister of Industry and Trade Rozeta Hajdari, and members of the German-Kosovar Business Association (KDWV), as well as numerous representatives from politics, business and German industry. MUNDA’s shareholders were represented by Peter Bolten (AUNDE), as well as by Wido and Dennis Weyer (MENTOR).

MUNDA, a joint venture between MENTOR and AUNDE, develops and produces textile lighting systems for the automotive industry. Series production of these systems has already begun at the new site. These components are used in vehicle models of a leading German premium OEM.

A Site with Perspective

“This plant is more than just a production site — it’s a commitment to growth, partnership, and regional development,” said Kai Muxel, MUNDA’s Managing Director, during his opening speech. The decision to establish operations in Kosovo was intentional, as the country’s young, well-educated population, business-friendly environment and strategic location in the heart of Europe provide an ideal foundation for long-term growth.

Following its establishment in March 2023, the plant was swiftly prepared for series production. The grand opening marks the official start of operations. Currently, production runs on a single-shift basis, with a second shift planned for the summer. A three-shift model is planned for the future. MUNDA aims to create up to 200 jobs in the medium term. The company also plans to become the first Volkswagen Group-audited automotive supplier in Kosovo within this year.

A Project that Connects People

The festive opening highlights the successful collaboration between MUNDA’s stakeholders and regional institutions. It demonstrates the commitment to creating jobs and driving economic development in the region. The dedication of the Kosovar workforce, coupled with the support of local partners and institutions, was instrumental in ensuring the project’s success.

Prime Minister Kurti, a trained electrical engineer himself, was impressed by the technological sophistication of the products during a tour of the site, emphasising: “MUNDA, as a joint venture between two renowned German companies—AUNDE and MENTOR—is more than just an investment. It is a sign of trust and clear evidence that Kosovo offers genuine opportunities for strategic investment.”

A Strong Signal

With the new site, MUNDA reinforces its ambition to establish itself as an independent, internationally competitive supplier with its own production base. The company shows how technological innovation can enhance competitiveness and how the right location, combined with targeted training and regional collaboration, can create jobs and drive sustainable growth.
