VDID Workshop Meeting – MENTOR in dialogue with product and industrial designers

VDID_Newscover_2

At the end of September, the first VDID workshop meeting was held in our main factory, exploring the subject of integrated lighting solutions. More than twenty designers accepted our invitation to Erkrath and gained insights into the development and manufacture of light components on-site.

Product and industrial designers play an important role in the development and design of new products. For us, as a manufacturer of light components, designers are important dialogue partners for all kinds of product areas and we are convinced that both sides can benefit from a productive dialogue.

We are actively seeking and encouraging this dialogue for many reasons: To exchange ideas on trends in technology and design; to find out how we can support each other in the design process, and with which information and services we can do this, but also to offer inspiration with regard to the fascinating possibilities of light in product design.

Based on this guiding theme, the first workshop meeting organised by the VDID, the Association of German Industrial Designers, was held in our factory.

How do you create functional or emotional added value in products by using light? What characterises light quality? What should designers know when they are using light as a design feature? What challenges must be resolved by developers? Questions like these were the subject of the two presentations by Stephan Sost, Head of Marketing and Sebastian Wette, Product Developer for Lighting Solutions, at the start of the workshop meeting.

During the subsequent tour, Stefan Kretschmer from the Light Specialist Group demonstrated the extensive equipment and wide range of possibilities of our light laboratory. In our new showroom, Program Manager Markus Mielchen then showed a variety of examples of already completed projects from a wide range of industries and explained the different solutions and the associated challenges with the aid of the live, or illuminated, products.

Finally, our guests were given the opportunity to exchange ideas with our light specialists and to have some refreshments before their journey home.

If you are interested in the topics we explored during the workshop meeting, we would be delighted to answer your questions. Simply send an e-mail to Markus Mielchen.
